It was heartbreak in Ottawa as the Hamilton Tiger-cats faced the Redblacks in the CFL East final Sunday afternoon.
With less than two minutes to play, Hamilton fans had hopes of a come-from-behind win as Luke Tasker made the catch from Jeremiah Masoli for the tying touchdown.
But with time left on the clock, Ottawa’s Henry Burris hooked up with Greg Ellingson, another former Ticat… And Ellingson avoided the tackle, taking off for a 93-yard touchdown catch that made the final score 35-28.
That means the RedBlacks will play next Sunday in the 103rd Grey Cup in Winnipeg.
They’ll face the Edmonton Eskimos, who beat the defending champion Calgary Stampeders in the West final, 45-31.
Ottawa has not played in a Grey Cup game since 1981, when the Roughriders lost to Edmonton.
Last year in the inaugural year of the CFL’s return to Ottawa, the Redblacks finished last in the East at 2-and-14.
