Three young Hamilton men arrested in series of car thefts

Two men and one youth have been arrested in connection with a series of car thefts across the Hamilton and St. Thomas areas.

In August, the Hamilton Police Service Break, Enter, Auto Theft and Robbery (B.E.A.R.) Unit launched an investigation into a group targeting high-end vehicles, primarily Lexus models. None of the vehicles have been recovered and investigators believe this group is responsible for many more thefts.

Earlier today, police executed two search warrants – one at a Hamilton home and another at an apartment building in the city’s east end. Officers say they found evidence related to nine car thefts, including sophisticated electronic devices used to bypass vehicle security systems.

Waleed Khan, 18, of Hamilton faces over 30 offences related to vehicle thefts.

A 17-year-old boy, also from Hamilton, was charged with over 40 offences, including 12 counts of failing to comply with previous release orders.

A 22-year-old Hamilton man was arrested and charged with two offences related to motor vehicle theft.

Both Khan and the male youth are being held in custody and await a bail hearing.
