The Lincoln County Humane Society says three rabid animals have been located in the St. Catharines area.

Two raccoons and one skunk have tested positive for rabies in the last few weeks.

The animals were located in the Glenridge/Old Glenridge area south of Glendale Ave. in St. Catharines.

The LCHS says it’s “unusual” to see this many cases in such a short period of time.

They’re reminding people to be mindful of pets and children and not to leave them unattended.

Pet owners are being reminded to keep rabies vaccines up to date.

Rabies can be transmitted to humans through the saliva of an infected animal, usually from a bite.

Anyone who encounters a wild animal exhibiting strange behaviours such as stumbling, lethargy or curled in a ball should call the LCHS at 905-682-0767.
