The Ontario Fire Marshal is investigating an East Hamilton house fire that claimed the lives of three people.
At around 11:30pm on Saturday night, Hamilton Fire crews responded to a house fire at 191 Grenfell St. When they arrived on scene, flames were shooting through the front and back of the 1.5 storey home.
Three people were also sent to hospital to be treated for injuries, among them, Jonathan Davidson, a neighbour who sprang to action to help rescue people inside the home when he heard screams.
The identities of the three victims who died have not yet been released. A Coroner’s report is due out later today.
So far, there is no word on what caused the fire. Hamilton Fire officials say there were smoke alarms in the home, but it’s not yet known if they were in working order at the time of the fire.
Damage is estimated to be around $260,000.
