Three Amigos Summit

There was thunderous applause and a standing ovation for U.S. President Barack Obama as he delivered a speech in the House of Commons- the first by an American president since Bill Clinton in 1995.
For nearly an hour, Obama spoke ahead of a joint session of the House and the Senate – praising Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Obama says Trudeau brings new energy and leadership to Canada and to the alliance between the U.S. and Canada. Obama did call on Canada, though to contribute its full share to NATO.
Obama’s comments come after the ‘Three Amigos’ meeting between Prime Minister Trudeau and Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto. All three say it would be a mistake for North America to shut itself off from an integrated global economy. They also announced plans to achieve 50% clean power generation across North America by 2025.
They also discussed global trade. This, as U.S. Republicans oppose the Trans-Pacific partnership. When talking about trade, Barack Obama noted that free trade must also be fair trade. And he says controversies about trade agreements come with the territory for all countries.
