Partridge wrote on Twitter “For those refusing to come to the meeting, it speaks volumes, shame. This is a painful time of struggle in our city everyone needs to show respect”.

The Pride Community also upset with a photo posted on Twitter. The photo shows yellow vest protesters in the city’s forecourt with signs saying “We love Hamilton mayor” and “Thank you to Hamilton police.”

The mayor responded on Twitter saying “I denounce any groups, organizations or individuals that practices hate”. “An attack against any one of us is an attack against us all”.

While people seem receptive to the mayor’s stance on Twitter, many are calling for him to put those words into action. Jyssika Russell a member of Hamilton Queers Against Hate wants the mayor to be more specific.

Cameron Kroetsch of the advisory committee responded saying “The only shame you should feel is at yourself for taking three weeks to say anything about this publicly or at the mayor for not being able to organize an effective public meeting. Coming for members of a traumatized community is gross”.

The exchange of tweets comes after a heated three weeks between the LGBTQ community and city hall. The tension stems from June 15th’s Pride festivities that were interrupted by protesters and an outbreak of violence.
