Tentative deal averts Niagara Parks employee strike

Niagara Parks employees have avoided a strike with a last-minute tentative deal, keeping over 850 workers on the job Thursday.

Members of OPSEU Local 217 Niagara Falls were in a legal strike position as of 12:01 a.m. on Friday as they demanded fair wages.

This local has been without a contract since Oct. 31 of last year.

Union President Mike Gorforth tells CHCH News, “We have reached a tentative agreement that still has to go to the membership for ratification on Friday.”

No details will be released until union members have had a chance to review the contract agreement and vote on it, which will happen on May 28.
