As Israel and Hamas explore a potential ceasefire, tensions in Canada around the war in Gaza remain high as Toronto police investigate several incidents at Mount Sinai hospital during demonstrations tied to the war Monday night.

Toronto police are investigating a protest along hospital row in the downtown core after they say several “incidents” occurred outside Mount Sinai hospital.

Police have now increased their presence along hospital row to ensure essential services and access are available after confirming that hospital operations were affected.

Officers say while no charges have been laid, they could come at a later date.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took to social media on Tuesday to condemn the protest outside the hospital, calling the actions “reprehensible.”

While tensions in Canada remain high, in Gaza two anonymous officials say Israel and Hamas are making progress towards a deal that aims to bring a ceasefire and free hostages as talks are being held in Egypt.

Negotiations are moving forward even after Israel intensified its offensive in Rafah, from where it freed two hostages but killed at least 74 Palestinians according to local health officials.

Jordan’s former Foreign Minister Marwan Muasher spoke on the impact of the raid on Rafah on Palestinians.

“Any attack on Rafah is going to result in hundreds of thousands of Palestinians probably trying to flee into Egypt. We talk about a credible plan to prevent that from happening, but frankly I don’t see any plan that can be credible in preventing these people.” said Muasher.

“They have nowhere to go. They cannot go back into their homes and their homes are gone in northern Gaza, but they can’t even go back to the area because Israel is preventing them from doing so. They have nowhere to go.”

Egyptian and western officials say there are gaps between Israel and Hamas but progress is being made.

According to one United States official, one of the areas where there’s disagreement is tied to the release of all Palestinian prisoners jailed in Israel.
