Another strike on ArcelorMittal’s Ukrainian steel plant leaves 2 dead, 2 injured

ArcelorMittal’s Ukrainian steel operation, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, was struck again by a ballistic missile attack, leaving two contractors killed and two employees injured on Saturday.

The company says its focus is on supporting the families and friends who are grieving this loss.

This includes providing support to all employees impacted by the missile strike and those injured receiving medical attention in local hospitals.

The missile attack targeted the area of ironmaking complex #1.

Specialist teams are assessing the extent of the damage and the work required to resume operations.

The steel company says it is too early at this stage to provide a credible estimate of how long repair works will take.

This marks the second missile strike on ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih’s operations in five weeks.

In mid-August a missile strike killed one staff member and a contractor and injured at least 13 others.

The attack damaged the main energy complex and blast furnace production at the complex, which employs over 14,000 workers, around 100 kilometres from the war’s front line.

Primary steel production is paused for repairs, with the rest of the plant idling or operating at minimum capacity.
