Teacher wins award, supplies

A Hamilton teacher now has a full stock of classroom supplies, thanks to winning a teaching award.

Catherine Federchuk from AM Cunningham says she was surprised when Grand and Toy came knocking on her classroom door today. She was given a huge box with $1500 worth of teaching supplies inside it.

It’s all part of Grand and Toy’s A Day Made Better initiative, which honours teachers across Canada. Federchuk was one of 17 teachers who won the award this year.

“It makes me feel overwhelmed, like just so happy that I’m actually doing good for these kids. Like I said it comes naturally to me, I loved kids and have always loved kids.”

This is the fourth year for the initiative. Students, parents and teachers send in nominations for teachers from kindergarten to grade eight that show exceptional teaching abilities.
