There is a disturbing new fad that’s emerging on social media. People are intentionally sunburning designs into their skin and sharing photos of the “art”. Dermatologists are worried about the trend and say even one burn  can lead to cancer causing damage.

“Sunburn, even if it’s just one can leave a long lasting damage. You damage the DNA that’s underneath the skin.”

‘Sunburn art’, also known as a ‘tan tattoo’, has recently taken off on social media. Posters are showing off their skin seared with pictures and patterns. Some designs are achieved by taping stickers to the body, others are made using sunscreen.

“There’s no such thing as a safe tan and there’s definitely no such thing as a safe burn.”
