The truck that crashed into the beams above the Skyway Bridge did not set off the early detection alarm, because the bin was not raised when it passed the sensor. That according to testimony from OPP Constable Steven Anderson.  Anderson is with the Collision Reconstruction Until and he presented his report of the Skyway crash to court.
His report says that based on their calculations, the truck was driving between 84 and 93 kilometres per hour at the time of impact; 3:35pm on July 31st, 2014.
Sukhvinder Singh Rai, 37, of Brampton is facing four charges in relation to the crash. Among them, is “mischief endangering life.” All day Rai sat quietly as an interpreter repeated everything that is said in his native Punjabi.
There are several sensors set up to alert workers if an approaching vehicle is too tall for the steel frame of the bridge. The first one is 4km away from the Skyway.  The sensor alerts if a vehicle is more than 4.08 meters high. With the bin down, the truck that crashed into the bridge is 3.99 meters high.
Court saw images of the truck as it approached the bridge with the bin down. By the time the truck reached the top, the bin was at least six meters high.
