Students rally at Queen’s Park
They were noisy, enthusiastic, and a few were downright angry.
Hundreds of high school and elementary students gathered in front of the Ontario legislature this morning to tell politicians and union officials to get back to the bargaining table. There were plenty of signs outside the legislature that condemned Bill 115 and plenty of chanting, urging the government to kill the bill.
Despite that, students who led the protest said they really wanted only one thing: a solution, to the current impasse between the teachers’ unions and the Liberal government.
They said the current stalemate is hurting them both academically, and socially — as the cancellation of extra-curricular activities cuts into non-academic skills, like communication, organization, social development, and team-work.
They called for a meeting with education minister Laurel Broten and the leaders of both the OSSTF and ETFO to hear their concerns, first hand.
