Students mark Remembrance Day

As Canadians across the country came together for Remembrance Day, some students in Milton came up with their own way to show their gratitude. Grade eight students at Boyne public school spent the last two weeks creating the 400 origami poppies that were placed today. Students say they were inspired by the installation of ceramic poppies in England
“We’re trying to replicate the moat of the tower of London, where they put all these poppies in commerce of fallen soldiers that died in WWI.”
The idea was sparked after the grade seven and eight art teacher suggested making poppies for the school assembly, but a student was the one who suggested the display. A handmade poppie was made for every student at the school, each one was asked to plant them while remembering the veterans who served our country.
