Strong, damaging winds expected to hit Golden Horseshoe Area

Environment Canada is warning residents in parts of Southern Ontario about strong winds that are expected to develop Tuesday.

The weather agency says strong southwesterly winds with gusts up to 100 kilometres an hour are expected to develop in Niagara Falls, Welland, St. Catharines, and Grimsby Tuesday afternoon and gradually weaken before Wednesday morning.

Halton Region, Hamilton and Brant County are also expected to get hit with wind gusts up to 80 kilometres an hour.

Local police forces are urging drivers to prepare for quickly changing road condition, including downed trees and debris. Hyrdo lines may also sustain damage causing downed power lines and outages in the region.

Environment Canada says damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur and loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.
