St. Paul’s bridge demolition in St. Catharines disrupts GO Train service

Commuters in St. Catharines are about to experience major GO Train disruptions, as the city moves forward with the planned demolition of the St. Paul’s West Bridge.
Work to remove the more than 100-year-old bridge is set to begin on Nov. 18, and construction activity to take it all down is expected to last until Nov. 20.
This is the next step in Niagara region’s “GO Precinct Development Project,” a multi-component construction initiative.
During the bridge removal process, there will be pedestrian, traffic and transit detours in place.
The bridge is currently situated over an active CN Rail corridor, so the rail company is suspending train service on the tracks below, which is what will cause the disruptions to GO Train services.
Service to Niagara Falls and St. Catharines will both be impacted.
While the bridge is dismantled, trains will begin and end at Aldershot or West Harbour in Hamilton.
