St. Catharines school showcases Black history through fashion

A fashion show took place at Jeanne Sauvé public school in St. Catharine’s. As part of Black History Month, the students showcased Black fashions from the past and present.

The past portion of the fashion show paid tribute to Black Canadians, while the present portion showcased some local Black-owned businesses and entrepreneurs. The final section highlights the future.

“The future aspect of show is more focused on unity, the future that we want to see, a future that includes Black leaders,” teacher Andre Thames said.

Almost 100 students took part in the fashion show while the rest of the school watched. The goal was to have fun while learning about Black history at the same time.

The school will have a show for the public on Thursday at 7 p.m. and are expecting over 500 people to attend.
