St. Catharines and Portage, IN mayors send letter to U.S. president on tariffs

The mayor of St. Catharines Mat Siscoe sent a letter Wednesday to President Donald Trump describing the damaging effects trade tariffs could cause both sides.
The letter, co-signed with the Mayor of Portage, IN Austin Bonta, posted on X just after 10:30 a.m. a statement – on behalf of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative (GLSLCI) – that a a trade war between Canada and the U.S. would be “devastating.”

The letter reads that a trade war would affect the livelihoods of millions of people, and potentially affect over 50 million jobs along the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River Region.
The GLSLCI says it boasts an $8 trillion integrated economy all of which could be jeopardized by the tariffs.
