Spring means baby raccoons

You know spring is here when wildlife control firms start rescuing baby raccoons from homes.

Wildlife rescuers carefully bring baby raccoons out of a crawlspace, put them in a bag and then into a weather proof box. The mother raccoon realizes her babies are no longer with her and comes outside. The heated baby box allows the mother to safely relocate the litter to one of her multiple den sites.

Ryan Rainville, the manager at Skedaddle Humane Wildlife Control says homeowners should conduct routine checks around their houses: “With the bad winter we had — lots of snow and lots of ice — any areas that might have opened up, wood that might have rotted could present a vulnerable point around the home.  And obviously keep an eye and an ear out for any wildlife activity. If you hear funny noises or strange sounds inside the attic, it’s best to act quickly and get them out before they do have babies and those problems then begin to multiply and get more complicated.”

Rainville says this is just the start to a very busy raccoon baby season.
