Solo motorcycle riders could soon use HOV lanes in Ontario

Solo motorcycle riders could soon use high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes in Ontario.
Transportation Minister Jeff Yurek says the province is looking at changing the rules around who can use Ontario’s network of high occupancy-only lanes.
The proposed changes to the Highway Traffic Act were posted to the government’s regulatory registry on Monday.
Yurek says the change will increase safety on the highways and be more consistent with rules in other jurisdictions.
The province currently has HOV lanes on Highway 403, 404, 417, and the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW).
Only certain types of vehicles carrying at least two people are permitted to use the lane ways. Single-rider motorcycles are currently not allowed.
Drivers who break the rules can face fines of $110 and three demerit points.
