Uptick of break-ins at seasonal properties across Norfolk County

An uptick of break-ins at seasonal properties throughout Norfolk County has officers warning residents they need to ensure their homes are secure.

According to police, they’ve been called out to two break-and-enter cases over the past weekend.

The first report was made to police on Saturday morning.

They say that sometime between 8 a.m. Friday and 9:15 a.m. Saturday, someone broke into a residence on Linda Street in Normandale and stole an undisclosed amount of money and alcohol.

A few hours later, police received another call for a break-and-enter at a residence on Old Mill Road in Port Rowan.

Once inside, the thieves managed to plunder a yellow gas generator from the property.

Police have included a photo of a similar model and are asking the public to keep an eye out.

Police aren’t sure of the exact date of the break-in and say that it could have occurred anytime between Dec. 28, 2023 and Feb. 10, 2024.

It isn’t clear whether or not these incidents are related or how many individuals may be involved — but they do share a similar theme of criminals targetting unoccupied, seasonal homes in the region.

The department is reminding residents in the region to ensure their seasonal properties are secure.
