Crews continue to monitor hot spots after a fire inside a family-owned restaurant on Concession Street caused the roof to collapse.

Hamilton firefighters were called to the Oasis Restaurant around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Fire Safety Officer Claudio Mostacci says the cause has yet to be determined but damage is estimated at $550,000.

CHCH’s Diana Weeks spoke with one of the owners, Sam, after he arrived to the scene. “It’s a family business. Everyone helped out in this restaurant,” said Sam. “It was everything to us.”

The Ontario Fire Marshall has been called in but officials say they do not believe the fire was suspicious. The restaurant was closed at the time the fire broke out.

Concession Street was closed briefly while crews battled the blaze but has since reopened.
