Rob Ford thinks he’s out of trouble

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford believes he’s in the clear. The declaration comes on the same day more documents are released from the police investigation surrounding the crack cocaine video.

The Ontario Provincial Police say that they have been presented with no new evidence in the Project Brazen 2 investigation, which they took over the investigation last month, and therefore are not going ahead. At the same time, a judge lifted a publication ban on evidence collected during that investigation, so the public is privy to new information.

What we learned today is that a number of wiretaps that police collected allege that the hunt for the crack video last may prompted death threats from Ford’s friend and occasional driver, Sandro Lisi.

The man who shot the crack video was warned that Ford “knows a lot of dirty cops.”

The documents also allege that Lisi threatened to “bring down heat” on the Dixon area neighborhood where the video was believed to be. Lisi has been charged with extortion related to the investigation.

Reports surfaced Thursday that the Crown has said charges against the mayor are unlikely due to a lack of evidence. When word came that the OPP are not moving on this investigation, Ford was asked if he feels vindicated: “I just knew all along. I didn’t miss a day of work because I know, I did nothing wrong. I knew the day was going to come that I’d be cleared and today’s the day. I just want to get on with running the city — I didn’t do anything wrong and I thank the OPP. But that doesn’t take anything away from our police — I support our police 100% and I always have — and I always will.”

In this never-ending war of words, Toronto Police Detective Gary Giroux, who has been heading this up, says that Ford is not yet in the clear. He says that this investigation is ongoing.
