Reward offered for Cabbagetown murder tips
There’s now a $50,000 reward for tips leading to an arrest after the murder of a Toronto hotel worker last year.
Nighisti Semret, 55, was attacked while walking home from the night shift as a cleaner at the Delta Chelsea hotel on October 23, 2012. The refugee from North Africa was stabbed multiple times in a laneway in Cabbagetown.
Investigators released surveillance video from a nearby building on YouTube showing Semret being followed by a man, just before she died. Police say they believe Semret did not know her attacker.
Several witnesses came forward after the murder. One man said he confronted another man carrying a knife, but couldn’t stop him from running away. Toronto Police are expected to announce the reward during a news conference this afternoon.
