Rescue efforts underway after small plane crashes in N.W.T.
Rescue efforts are now underway after a small plane crashed on Wednesday, leaving 10 people injured and stranded near a diamond mine in the Northwest Territories.
A spokesperson for the 1 Canadian Air Division and Canadian NORAD Region Headquarter says that a search-and-rescue operation after an Air Tindi Twin Otter aircraft landed about 16 kilometres southeast of Diavik Diamond Mine in the Northwest Territories.
David Lavallee says three search-and-rescue technicians, who are highly trained in first response and survival techniques, have been parachuted to the accident location with supplies and equipment.
Lavallee says the plane had two crew members and eight passengers on board at the time of the incident. Six reportedly sustained minor injuries, while two had moderate to serious injuries.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Trenton says it is working alongside Air Tindi on an extraction plan that will include helicopters with medical teams that will travel to the accident location before transporting the group to Yellowknife.
