Rentable e-scooters to arrive in Hamilton today

Starting today, people in Hamilton can finally rent an e-scooter to get around the city.

As part of a provincial pilot program, the City of Hamilton have allowed an e-scooter rental business to begin operating.

Bird Canada will have scooters placed throughout Hamilton, which can be rolled onto the lower part of the city, not the sidewalk.

The cost is $1.15 to start riding and then $0.42 a minute after that. Day and week passes are also available.

The e-scooters are rented through Bird Canada’s app, which points people to the nearest scooter.

Once people are done, they can leave them chained to an immovable piece of city property, such as bike racks or street lights – just as long as it’s not blocking sidewalks, traffic or buildings.

Some other rules from the city include: riders must be 16 or older, helmets are mandatory for anyone under 18 and only one person per scooter.

The scooters come equipped with a speedometer, GPS and lighting.
