Rainbow flag flies at Queen’s Park

The rainbow flag is finally flying at the Ontario legislature, with just five days left until the end of the Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

Kathleen Wynne, Canada’s first openly gay premier, has said the Olympics are an opportunity to demonstrate our tolerance, diversity and respect for human rights on an international stage. All three parties had agreed on February 10th to ask the speaker for permission to fly the pride flag, but Liberal MPP John Milloy says it wasn’t granted until today.

“This as I say was endorsed by all three parties it was endorsed it was just an anomaly of our calendar and the fact to override the usual rules and this is an exceptional case to do this.”

The rainbow flag — a symbol of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights and pride — has been raised at city halls across Canada as a sign of solidarity after Russia passed an anti-gay law.
