Questions about speaker’s ruling dog Harper

Prime Minister Stephen Harper came to Toronto to announce funding for cancer research – but everyone was more interested in a decision that could lead to a spring election.


Lisa Hepfner tells us, there was more focus on this week’s ruling by House of Commons speaker Peter Milliken, that found the Conservatives breached parliamentary privilege.

Opposition leader Michael Ignatieff is expected to put a non-confidence motion before the commons on March 21st – the day before the federal budget is supposed to be tabled. If that motion passes, the government would fall and there would be a spring election.
When asked, Harper says he doesn’t believe Canadians want one, and that the focus of parliamentarians should be getting the economy on track, instead of procedure.
