Province selling off buildings
The Ontario government plans to sell eight provincially-owned buildings.
Infrastructure minister Bob Chiarelli says the sales could save up to $500 million and almost $300 million more over the next 30 years. He says the buildings will be sold to the private sector, which will manage the office space and rent it back to the government. They include buildings in Toronto, Oshawa, Guelph, Peterborough, St Catharines, North Bay, Sudbury and Thunder Bay.
In Toronto alone – the Ontario government occupies almost eight million square feet of space in more than one hundred buildings.
