A procession will take place Friday morning to honour the two South Simcoe police officers killed in the line of duty Tuesday night.

Const. Devon Northrup, 33, and Const. Morgan Russell, 54, died of gunshot wounds after responding to a disturbance call at a house in Innisfil, just south of Barrie.

The procession will begin at 9 a.m. Friday morning, starting at the Office of the Chief Coroner in Toronto.

It will then travel along highways 401 and 400 to Barrie with cruisers from South Simcoe Police, OPP and York police forming the escort.

Members of the public and emergency responders are welcome to pay their respects and watch the procession from overpasses and other safe locations.

There will be a full police funeral for the officers together, but details are still being finalized.

The Town of Innisfil invites community members to sign books of condolences set up at town hall for the two fallen officers.

The procession comes three days after a deadly shooting that killed two police officers, as well as a 22-year-old man in a home in Innisfil.

Based on preliminary information, the two officers did not draw their firearms when they were fatally shot. A third officer who was also at the house exchanged gunfire with the man.

The young man, who lived at the home, had a gun that the Special Investigations Unit said was a SKS semi-automatic rifle.

That type of rifle is available for purchase in Canada with a valid possession license.

The SIU says the third responding police officer was not injured.
