No Pride for Ford

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford says he won’t be attending this year’s Pride Parade. But unlike years past, it’s not because of a scheduling conflict.

In previous years, Ford said the pride parade conflicted with an annual Canada Day weekend at his family cottage. “I’ve never gone to a pride parade, so I’m not going to change the way I am.”

Ford has also voted against funding for pride. Councillor Doug Ford defended his brother saying although the mayor won’t be attending the event he is not homophobic.

This year, the city of Toronto will be host to “world pride.” Pride organizers say they look forward to hosting another successful event in Ford’s absence.
