Pressure mounts on Toronto mayor to confront allegations
As Mayor Rob Ford fires chief of staff Mark Towhey, the city of Toronto’s executive committee is reportedly preparing to take the unusual step of publicly urging Ford to confront allegations of drug abuse.
The committee is also said to be making contingency plans to run the city in his absence.
Councillors, who sit on the cabinet-like executive committee, are drafting a statement expected to be released today.
However, one committee member points out the mayor is the only one with the authority to decide his fate.
Apparently, the chief of staff was let go after telling Ford to seek help.
Sources close to the mayor’s office say ”he has a problem, he needs to go get help with it”.
It’s been a week since allegations surfaced there’s a video out there showing Ford smoking crack cocaine.
All the mayor has said to this point is that the stories are ”ridiculous”.
