Ahead of St. Patrick’s Day, some Ontarians at The Donegal Arms in Port Credit got a taste of Newfoundland Saturday by “kissing a cod.”

The tradition is also known as being “screeched in.”

It’s an East Coast ceremony, mostly popular in Newfoundland and it has become quite the tourist attraction.

The ceremony was done by many at the Irish pub, where people also enjoyed live music.

The pub has a lot more planned for St. Patrick’s Day on Tuesday, including a performance by the Port Credit-based group The Crossfield Bend, Irish dancers and Brampton’s Celtic rock band Screeched Inn.

The celebration will start at 11 a.m. and run until the bar closes.
