Police seize weapons, arrest man after fake gun incident at St. Catharines hospital

Niagara police say a 38-year-old man is facing 76 charges after being found with a replica gun at a hospital in St. Catharines.

On April 28, officers responded to the Marotta Family Hospital in St. Catharines after receiving reports of a patient in possession of a gun.

Officers determined the gun to be an imitation firearm, but the man was found to be in breach of a probation order for having the replica gun and arrested on scene.

In a separate incident, investigators received information about more weapons possibly being at the man’s home.

After receiving a search warrant, detectives entered the home and located and seized several weapons and related items.

As a result, Jamie Khouathip of St. Catharines was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Careless Storage of a Firearm (three counts)
  • Careless Storage of Ammunition (six counts)
  • Possess Firearm Without Holding a Licence (three counts)
  • Unlicenced Person Possess Restricted Weapon (three counts)
  • Possess Restricted Firearm Knowingly Not Holding a Licence (three counts)
  • Possess Prohibited Weapon Knowing No Authority
  • Possess Loaded Firearm (three counts)
  • Possess Firearm While Prohibited (nine counts)
  • Possess Ammunition While Prohibited (19 counts)
  • Possess Weapon While Prohibited
  • Possess Firearm Part While Prohibited (two counts)
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order (19 counts)
  • Possession of a Weapon Obtained by Crime
  • Possession of Prohibited Firearm Obtained by Crime (two counts)
  • Possession of a Restricted Firearm Obtained by Crime

The following items were seized during the investigation:

  • Two .22cal Switch Guns (loaded)
  • .22cal Handgun (loaded)
  • Three BB Guns
  • Shot Gun Barrel
  • Cut off Gun Stock
  • Shotgun Magazine-12 Gauge (Loaded with 12 rounds of slugs)
  • Numerous Rounds of Various Calibre Ammunition
  • Knuckle knife(prohibited)
  • Three Imitation Firearms with bullets (not operable)
