Hamilton has been hit with yet another violent gold theft, as officers are on the hunt for four men who smashed their way into a gold store on the east Mountain Sunday night.
The owner of the store was inside at the time of the theft and was held at gunpoint.
Police say at least one of the three had a gun, and two others had crowbars that they used to break through doors to get into the store.
Video of the robbery allegedly shows the suspects heading up the inner staircase leading to the Cash for Gold store on Fennell Avenue East, with crowbars and a gun.
“Three suspects entered 1119 Fennel Ave. East — one armed with a handgun, two armed with crowbars and they broke through several doors and gained entry to the business and removed property from the business with force,” said Hamilton Police Det. Const. Adam Kimbler.
The robbery happened late Sunday afternoon.

Police say the owner was shaken up, but not physically hurt and was adding up what the thieves got away with in gold, silver and cash.
“Hard to say exactly what they seized — the owner is still going through what was taken, but valuables including gold.” said Kimbler. “The first suspect with the handgun, is a male, Black with a medium build; the second believed to be holding a crowbar and then there’s another one, male, Black, with a medium build.”
They say a fourth man was waiting in a getaway car, a dark-colored SUV, later seen speeding down Charlton Avenue in downtown Hamilton, toward Ontario Highway 403.
The Ontario Provincial Police were notified.
This is the latest in a rash of violent robberies of jewelry stores, shaking up businesses and neighbourhoods.
“These are organized, it seems like they have a plan before they go in the business,” said Kimbler. “I think what it comes down to is, gold and silver are valuable no matter what time of year it is. It’s an easy grab for them, and they don’t care. They don’t care what they take, as long as it’s valuable.”
Most of the businesses at the mall on Fennell Avenue East were in operation Monday, but Cash for Gold had a sign reading “due to emergency, we are temporarily closed until further notice.”
Again, there were no injuries in this robbery. Police are asking for the public’s help to identify the suspects.
