A 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a woman who went missing in Hamilton in 2018.
Ahmet Nikci, of no fixed address, is charged with second-degree murder and indignity to a body in the death of 29-year-old Monica Chisar.
Chisar was reported missing by her family on September 28, 2018. She was last seen by a friend on July 11, 2018, in the area of Barton St. East and Parkdale Ave. North in Hamilton.

At the time of her disappearance, police said Chisar had gone missing in the past but always maintained contact with her family through social media. However, this time she had not reached out online during which caused her family and police to be concerned for her well-being.
On Dec. 24, 2019, a man and his son were walking in a wooded area near Highway 6 and Southgate Rd. 10 – about an hour north of Kitchener – and came across what they believed were human remains.
Officers conducted an extensive search of the area for evidence and following a “lengthy forensic examination” of the remains, it was determined they belonged to Chisar.

Investigators said Chisar didn’t have much history in Hamilton but had a “wide circle of associates” across the Greater Toronto Area.
In a Twitter video posted Wednesday evening, Det. Insp. MaryLouise Kearns of the Ontario Provincial Police’s Criminal Investigation Branch said Nikci was arrested on Tuesday.
Hamilton Police Service Det. Sgt. Jim Callender said Nikci will remain in police custody pending a court appearance at a later date.
