Police are searching for a 45-year-old man who was mistakenly released from the Hamilton-Wentworth Detention Centre following an administrative error.

Officers learned on Tuesday that Shawn Delaney of Hamilton was let out of the jail on March 3, prior to him serving his full sentence.

A police spokesperson told CHCH News that Delaney has been convicted of both violent and non-violent crimes.

Investigators say Delaney is aware of the mistake and avoiding police.

The Ministry of the Solicitor General is investigating the cause of the improper release.

People who see Delaney are asked to immediately call 911. Anyone with information that could assist police in finding him is asked to call 905-546-4925.
