Suspected targeted shooting in Fort Erie leaves man injured

Niagara police are investigating what they say appears to be a targeted shooting in Fort Erie that left a man in hospital with a gunshot wound.

On Wednesday at around 1:30 a.m., police were called to the area of Niagara Boulevard between Bertie and Murray streets for a report that someone had been shot.

Officers say they arrived on the scene to find a 27-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower body.

Emergency services treated the victim and sent him to an out-of-region hospital where he remains in stable condition.

Investigators say the incident escalated to point at which the suspect discharged a firearm at the victim.

The suspect remains outstanding as detectives try to confirm details of the incident, including the suspect’s identification.

There is a heavy police presence in the area and roads have been closed as the Forensic Services Unit (FSU) has been called in to process the scene.
