Police are investigating after a body was found on the shore of Lake Ontario in Niagara-on-the-Lake on Tuesday.

Officers tell CHCH News that they received the call shortly before 7 p.m. regarding the body located near Stewart and Lakeshore roads.

They say the deceased has not yet been identified. A post-mortem will be conducted to establish the identity, cause and time of death.

“Until the above can be confirmed, we are unable to categorize this as a suspicious death or natural causes,” investigators say.

This area is expected to be closed off for several hours.
