Hamilton police are warning the public of a suspicious man in a grey car who on two separate occasions this month approached teenage girls while walking alone.
The first incident was on Dec. 5 around 3 p.m. when a 13-year-old girl was approached by the man in a vehicle while walking in the area of Gemini Drive on Hamilton Mountain.
He told her to “get in the car to have fun and drive around.” He started to follow her but then did a U-turn and left.
The second incident was on Dec. 17 around 9:30 p.m. when a 16-year-old girl who was walking alone in the area of Upper Ottawa Street and Queensdale Avenue East was reportedly approached by the same man in the same car.
The driver attempted to make conversation with the girl but drove away when she ignored him. Moments later, the girl spotted the car again and the man began shouting to her: “You’re my friend.” He then tried to follow her in the car.
The girl took quick action and ran to a nearby residence for help where she was let inside. The man continued to shout at her until until the house door was shut. Only then did he leave.
Police believe both occurrences were committed by the same suspect.
He is described by both victims as of East Indian descent, in his 20s and with a small build. At the time of the incidents he had a small beard and spikey hair.
Notably, one of the girls said that the male smiled during the entire interaction.
The vehicle he was driving is described as a grey or silver sedan. No licence plate was obtained.
Hamilton police are reminding the public to always be vigilant when out walking by yourself and if you notice anything suspicious, report it immediately to police.
Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact Detective Tremis at 905-546-8964. For those who wish to remain anonymous contact Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
