Niagara police arrest man suspected to be involved in Niagara Falls shooting

Niagara police arrested a man Friday they suspect to be involved with a shooting in Niagara Falls that sent a man to hospital earlier this week.

On Tuesday, at approximately 9:30 a.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting at a long-stay motel in the area of Queen Street and Zimmerman Avenue.

Upon arrival, authorities located a man with gunshot wounds. He was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Detectives were eventually granted a search warrant for the hotel room where the shooting occurred.

An imitation firearm and ammunition were seized in the room.

As a result of the investigation, authorities have identified 35-year-old Jonathan Wade of Niagara Falls as the suspect.

Officers arrested Wade at a Niagara Falls hotel Thursday and charged him with the following offences:

  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Careless Use of a Firearm
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Discharging Firearm with Intent
  • Fail to Comply with Release Order (two counts)
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order
  • Disobey Court Order

He remains in custody and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing at a St. Catharines courthouse Friday.
