Police arrest St. Catharines man for alleged sexual assault of child

Niagara police have arrested a St. Catharines man for the alleged sexual assault of a young girl.

Officers say they responded to a report of sexual assault at a Niagara Falls address on June 11 at around 9:10 p.m.

In their initial investigation, detectives determined a man had approached a young girl that was walking in the area of Geneva Street and North Service Road in St. Catharines.

Police arrested 27-year-old Achraf Ghalil of St. Catharines on Aug. 19. And charged him with four child abuse related charges including luring and sexual assault.

Ghalil is being held in custody before his bail hearing on Wednesday.
