Police appeal for witness in assault on Hamilton mountain

Hamilton Police say they want to hear from a potential witness to an assault that happened on the mountain last month.
Police are investigating the incident, which happened near 555 Sanatorium Rd. around 5 p.m. on Sept. 2.
There was a physical altercation between a pedestrian, who was walking on the sidewalk, and a man driving a silver Dodge Caravan.
The driver got out of the vehicle and verbally confronted the pedestrian, before assaulting him and driving away.
Police say they don’t know what prompted the altercation.
The pedestrian, a 60-year-old man, went to hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Police say they believe there was a witness in the area at the time who may have taken a photo of the driver and the license plate.
They are asking that person, or anyone else with information, to contact them.
The driver is described as a Caucasian man, about 5’10” with short dark hair.
He was clean-shaven and was wearing light-coloured shorts and black and grey shirt.
