‘Please, it’s my birthday’: York police release video of Ferrari driver charged with stunt driving

A birthday boy’s dreams of arriving in style were abruptly halted when York Regional Police pulled him over for stunt driving.

The driver, who was behind the wheel of a Ferrari, was clocked at 130 km/h in a 70 km/h zone.

York police just shared video of the traffic stop, which actually happened on Highway 27 in Vaughan in October 2024.

When stopped by police, the man appeared stunned, repeatedly insisting he didn’t realize he was speeding.

“Speeding? I’m on my way to my birthday party. I haven’t driven the Ferrari for a while,” he told the officer during the roadside exchange.

The officer informed him that his speed had been locked using radar.

“I have a radar in my car,” the officer said.

The man was incredulous. “You’re going to tag me at 130 km/h?” he asked, before pleading to see the radar.

The officer obliged, showing the driver the yellow number on the display.

“That’s you,” he confirmed.

When the reality sank in, the man tried a new tactic: heartfelt begging.

“Officer…please, it’s my birthday,” he said.

But the officer didn’t budge. “Unfortunately, there’s nothing I can do,” he replied.

As the conversation continued, the driver’s desperation mounted. “They’re gonna take my car?” he asked.

“Yes,” the officer confirmed.

“Please, just give me a ticket, I beg you,” the driver pleaded.

But the outcome was already sealed.

Instead of enjoying his birthday in a Ferrari, the driver was charged with stunt driving and faced a 30-day licence suspension, a 14-day vehicle impoundment, and potential court-imposed fines.

“Ma, you have to come pick me up. The police pulled me over,” the driver is heard in the video.

York Regional Police issued a reminder following the incident: “Even if you’re going to your birthday party, there is no excuse for stunt driving.”
