Planes: Fire & Rescue

Planes: Fire & Rescue is an animated sequel to 2013’s Planes and is directed by Bobs Gannaway, who makes his feature film debut. The film follows Planes protagonist Dusty Crophopper (voiced by Dane Cook) who, after learning he has a damaged engine which may keep him from racing forever, picks up a job in aerial firefighting and helps protect Piston Peak National Park. He joins a crew made up of a number of different aircraft including Dipper, a massive air-tanker, and Blade Ranger, the veteran leader of the Smokejumpers. Joining Cook in the voice cast are Ed Harris, Julie Bowen, Brad Garrett, Cedric the Entertainer, Patrick Warburton, and many more.
History really steered the production team towards the idea for this sequel. As Gannaway explains, “We discovered that crop dusting planes Dusty was inspired by are also used for wildfire air attack. Known as a SEAT—a Single Engine Air Tanker—it’s the smallest plane in the wildfire air attack fleet.” Though it was produced by DisneyToon Studios, the production wing usually tasked with straight to video sequels, Planes: Fire & Rescue was still produced by John Lasseter, the brains behind Toy Story and the original Cars. It’s also got some big names in the music department. Brad Paisley wrote and performed the song “All In” specifically for the movie.
Planes: Fire & Rescue is rated PG.
