A St. Catharines regional councillor who is embroiled in controversy is looking to extend his paid leave of absence once again.

Andy Petrowski may have vanished from council chambers, but he’s not been forgotten.

The councillor took his second paid leave of absence last year after a photo of a naked woman was mass emailed from his regional account in May.

Under the Municipal Act, a councillor can be absent from meetings for 90 days with no explanation required. Beyond that, council must authorize any extensions.

If approved by council, Petrowki’s leave would extend to September 25th, a week before the final council meeting prior to the municipal election.

He did say he had no plans to reveal the reason for his absence, saying only that its “personal and confidential”

But regional councillors say they need more information about why Petrowski is on leave before they’re able to make an informed vote.

The motion goes before council on Thursday night.
