McMaster’s youngest student

He’s known as “The Kid”

That’s because when Alex D’Souza started at McMaster he was only fourteen-years-old, now at nineteen, he’s graduating with a double major in chemical and bio-engineering.

We first met him in 2013, like most boys his age he was playing video games. It was the summer before he started university, while most of his friends were just starting high-school.

He was too young to play school sports, as he was fourteen-years-old, and the other kids were older and taller, and he could not go out to the bars.

But as Mac’s youngest student, he says he never felt left out or out of place.

He started kindergarten at age two, and was always younger than his peers.

He grew up in India, skipped grade seven, and when his family moved to Canada, he should have been in grade nine based on his age, but was put in the grade twelve class.

His graduation ceremony is Friday, but he will not be going into Summer break, as he is currently doing his masters in Chemical engineering. Much like the rest of his schooling, it will be an accelerated learning program, and when he finishes next year, he hopes to start his own business.

His learning experience was not only just in the books, he was president of the chemical engineering club, and was involved in many other student organization, as well as being a part of the varsity ultimate Frisbee team.

As for playing videogames, he likes to play Fortnite.
