Pelham house fire under investigation, occupants evacuated

A fire broke out Monday night at a house in Pelham, Niagara Region after black smoke was reported in the basement.

According to a CHCH freelancer the person who called in the fire just before 8 p.m. confirmed that all occupants had evacuated the house and were safe across the street.

The Pelham Fire Department made entry into the home and found fire and heavy smoke coming from the back of the structure.

According to Niagara police the fire was contained to a small area and extinguished by the Pelham Fire Department with no reported injuries.

Red Cross was called in to assist the family with their needs.

The fire is under investigation and the cost of damages has yet to be determined.
