Overnight blaze at vacant Niagara Falls house under construction

The Niagara fire department was called to a blaze at a vacant house under construction in Niagara Falls after midnight.

Damages are said to be over $75,000 at the structure located at 5762 Spring St.

Crews were called to the scene after someone noticed smoke coming from the back basement window.

Firefighters arrived at 12:45 a.m. Dec. 31 to find smoke and visible flames. The main floor inside had reportedly burned through to the basement.

No one was inside the building at the time of the fire.

The fire department confirmed that the fire started in the basement and the cause is not yet known.

The property has been released to the homeowner.
