Peel police have arrested two people of Hamilton after an investigation into counterfeit licence plates which are linked to open investigations across the country.
Officers say they discovered a “registered online business” that is accused of knowingly producing and selling phony licence plates.
The counterfeit plates have been connected to 30 criminal investigations in Ontario and others across Canada.
It is alleged that the plates have been used in incidents of fraud, organized auto theft, violence and firearms.
Detectives say they conducted search warrants on April 7 at two Hamilton addresses and arrested two individuals.
Avery Macleod-Nolk, 28, and 27-year-old Tyler Matthew Macleod, both of Hamilton have been charged with unlawfully making marks, selling or possessing counterfeit marks, affixing a mark and possession of property obtained by crime.
Police say both of the accused were released on an undertaking.
Investigators seized items used to make and distribute fake licence plates including currency, plate-pressing equipment, fraudulent blank plates from multiple jurisdictions, promotional materials, vehicles and other related items.
